OUR STORY

Culligan

A visionary man, a maternity waiting room and the desire to help families and communities consume cleaner and safer water. It was from this unusual context that the idea of what years later would become Culligan, a world leader in water treatment, was born.

It was in 1921, in a maternity ward in the North American city of Northbrook, Illinois, that businessman Emmett Culligan – while awaiting the birth of his son – had the idea of creating his first water treatment solution.

A few years later, in 1936, the Culligan Company was born, officially beginning its activities with the launch of its first water softener, the Faucet Water Softener. A tap capable of removing calcium and other metals from water, making it “soft” and ideal for domestic consumption. The beginning of a history of growing expansion.
